Bill Gates, Chairman of Microsoft, is expected to visit the country soon at the invitation of Dr Hessa Al Jaber, Secretary - General of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR). She extended the invitation during a meeting at the ‘Government Leaders Forum Arabia’ held in Abu Dhabi, UAE last week. Al Jaber invited Gates to visit and mobilize the company’s resources to help with Qatar’s e-Health programme.
During the Abu Dhabi meeting, the two discussed Microsoft’s Connected Health Framework and how it is driving the development of health solutions globally. Al Jaber requested Gates to engage ictQATAR and its e-Health partners, the National Health Authority (NHA) and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), to work towards better integrated and secure information systems for the healthcare sector here.
Al Jaber said: “ictQATAR, the NHA and HMC recognise that information and communication technologies helps transform patient care by creating an environment where clinicians and patients can access medical information easily and quickly.”
Al Jaber and Gates discussed ictQATAR’s and Microsoft’s current collaboration on e-Education projects. Gates said education will continue to be a key focus area for Microsoft and highlighted ongoing investment in the company’s Connected Education Framework. Microsoft officials based here said Gates intends to visit Qatar soon to explore other opportunities for cooperation with ictQATAR and other government agencies.
