I tried so many GIS applications on Ubuntu, but only these packages cover most of GIS applications, about 10 minutes depending on your internet connection and you can have a high-end GIS workstation built completely on Ubuntu. Here we go.

Ubuntu 8.10 with codename “Interpid Ibex” has been officially released. Ubuntu 8.10 will be supported for 18 months on both desktops and servers.
